Bed quilts blur the line between craft and art. Can they be as gorgeous as a spectacular painting? Yep. Can you use them every day and then run them through the washing machine? Yep. For me, bed quilts are an opportunity to enhance life’s daily museum. Functional beauty? I’m all over that.
Color + Form
When I cannot understand the atrocious scope of human behavior, I find solace in color and form. Yielding to their personalities, designs of complex relationships emerge.
A magical alliance forms between two colors. I rearrange the composition to kindle that romance. A muscle twitch contracts my elbow, a previously obedient seam becomes a distinctive gesture. I add another unexpected line to give the first one company.
Honoring the mating habits of color and form, and sewing them into place — this keeps me sane. The reward is not understanding, but beauty. And beauty is enough to give me hope for a better tomorrow.
